March building permits jumped 70% over the same month last year. This is a huge increase. Permits for the first three months of the year were up 51%. Since 2011, the market has seen an 83% increase. The average permit value was $214,000.

It’s looking good for Wake County’s building industry. This is especially true in the parts of the county where I-540 is being extended.
The total number of permits for new residential buildings is up 28 percent from last year. The total value of the homes that were issued permits is $558 million – this is up 35% from 2011 and indicates the homes’ average value has increased by about 5 percent.
