Apps and Greenways

Oh how I’ve missed Monday Fundays. Luckily the first Monday this December was unseasonably warm. It was a beautiful day – a great day for a bike ride with the original Monday Funday Crew – Will, Rose and Georgia. This time we had a guest appearance from Dan the mountain man (Rose’s friend from western NC.)

I was a bit weary of hopping on a bike for the first time in weeks (many weeks,) but was excited to  check out the new House Creek Greenway as well as try out the new RGreenway App. It was a relief when Will told me that it wouldn’t be too tough of a ride – too bad he lied.  After a nearly 3-hour ride I could barely walk when we first got back to Rose and Georgia’s house in Five Points.

I don’t know exactly how far we biked, but we started in Five Points and made our way to Crabtree and then to the art museum. We even saw part of the CowParade project. Despite having sore legs, it was a lot of fun. Can’t wait until the next ride – It’s always a blast with the Monday Funday Gang.  Enjoy the photos!

Wine and Design

This year for her birthday, my friend Vicky invited all of us to Wine and Design. Nestled within the neighborhood of Five Points, Wine and Design is a studio where you can paint your very own masterpiece while enjoying any food or beverages that you brought with you. It was really fun and a great way to kick off Vicky’s birthday celebration.  Best of all, we each went home with our own piece of artwork that we painted ourselves.

Beautiful!

Ta da! My first canvas painting. The highest bid takes it home. Any takers?

Photo Series #2 – Monday Funday

Mondays are quickly becoming one of my favorite days. Every week the Monday-Funday gang and I try to meet up to go riding. Each time we choose a different route and pick different locations around Raleigh to visit.

This time we took the Capital Area Greenway towards New Bern Avenue where we rode past Wake Medical Center and the Raleigh Country Club and then into Downtown Raleigh where we ended up in the Warehouse District. It was a steady uphill battle for a good part of the way. I’m so glad we took a different route back to our starting point at Kiwanis Park.  All in all we biked about 15 miles.

I hope you enjoy the photos – Raleigh is beautiful and has so much offer. Hopefully the weather will be just as nice next Monday too. I’m looking forward to our next destination. Maybe the Farmer’s Market?  Stay tuned to find out!

And we’re off!

We have seriously lucked out on the weather lately.

Love this bridge.

I'm already falling behind...

Our first stop after biking up all the way down New Bern Avenue from Capital Boulevard... David and Will outside Remedy Diner in downtown Raleigh.

Rose relaxing by the road in front of Remedy Diner.

Our next stop... New Belgium beer tasting at Tasty Beverage in the Warehouse District.

Apparently their Pale Lager goes really well with Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches.

Rose checking out the awesome selection of beer at Tasty Beverage Co.

I was very impressed with their beer selections. They've got beer from all over here.

Will found his favorite IPA.

Finishing up our beers before heading back. To get back to Kiwanis Park, we rode through Glenwood South to Five Points. It was a really nice ride through some of my favorite neighborhoods.

Once again, it was an awesome Monday with Will, Rose and David. We missed you Georgia... Perhaps you'll join us next Monday.

Photo Series #1 – Kiwanis Park & Shelley Lake

Like most of this week, Monday was another gorgeous day.  Perfect weather for a casual bike ride on Raleigh’s Greenway Trail System through Kiwanis Park and Shelley Lake. Afterwards, we headed to Frankie’s Fun Park for some Go Carting and Ski-ball!

Georgia, Will and Rose preparing for the ride through Kiwanis Park.

This seems to happen to us a lot...

Rose, Me and Georgia... We're all thinking the same thing, "Another dead end???"

Will is getting ready to lead the way out of there. We should know better than to follow Georgia...

I had to take more pictures. They're all waiting for me. Exciting stuff.

Just put those anywhere...

What would you do if you saw a picnic table in the lake?

Rose and Georgia risked their lives and climbed on the thing...

I'm glad there's another photographer in the group.

Will's getting that perfect shot!

He almost looks like he knows what he's doing...

Fierce... Georgia is one fierce chick. Don't let her fool you.

Hey a picture of me taking a picture - that's never happened before... Is this the best way to put your shoes on, Rose?

Photo Op!

Shelley Lake

I wonder what Georgia is looking at...

Georgia and I... Obviously I'm not paying attention.

It's a close call, but I think I'm tanner than Georgia.

It was a beautiful day. I'm really glad I got to spend some of it outside with my Irregardless buddies
